Rev. James David Harned

James D Harned, the 8th of the 12 known children of John Harned and Elizabeth Ann Duncan, was born on December 2, 1839 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were Nathaniel Harned and Mary Hartley, who were married March 29, 1804 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was a farmer and was married twice.

James and 1/w Hester Ann Smith were married September 26, 1861 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. She was born December 28, 1845 in Kentucky. They were the parents of: Eli, Mark R., Josie and Asa. Hester died on June 16, 1869.

James then married Amanda Blanche Yates on February 10, 1870 probably in Grayson County, Kentucky. They were living in Leitchfield in Grayson County at the time of the 1880 census. Amanda, the daughter of William Yates and Nancy J. Armes, was born on February 26, 1843. James and Amanda were the parents of: Isaac Clifford "Cliff," Jesse L., Anna Mae "Sissy Ann," Willie Brown, James Oscar, John D., Frederick A., Olivia Ellen "Ella" and Myrtle M. Harned.

James D Harned died at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 22 days on June 25, 1916 in Jefferson County, Kentucky. He was buried as James D. Harned in the Vol Layman Cemetery near Millwood, Grayson County, Kentucky. His widow Amanda joined him there after her death on May 31, 1929 at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 5 days. Also buried there are daughter Sissy Ann and son James Oscar and James' wife Ada Eleanor Nugent Harned.
