Rev. Robert Harmar

Robert Harmar was at New College, Oxford in 1613: on list of Winchester scholars for 1605, matriculated New College, Oxford, 12 Oct 1610 (age 19), B.A. 9 May 1614, M.A. 17 Jan 1618; Fellow 1612-1620, vicar of Steeple Morden, Royston, Cambridgeshire, from 1620 [to June 1628, per Alumni Cantabrigienses]..

This would put his birth date at c. 1591.

Mentioned in will of Prof. John Harmar I, both as a legatee and as a "cosen" (cousin or other collateral relative) who owed him some money.

He had an older brother John who was not a Greek scholar, and apparently not that much of a scholar at all - a Winchester scholar in 1597, he matriculated at New College 16 Dec 1603 (age 20), but there is no record of his graduating. (That would put John's birth date at c. 1583 - highly suitable to be the father of four children between 1603-1608.)

(There was also a middle brother named Arthur, a Winchester scholar in 1600, no further record - and he is much too young to be Arthur father of Charles.)

Steeple Morden was a poor (or stingy) parish, providing little in the way of tithes - so either Rev. Robert had independent funds, or he was truly dedicated.
