NOTE: Rev. Seth Fletcher (Puritan clergyman) settled in the Saco, Maine area in 1661. He is the first minister of Biddeford of whose record is preserved. The town employed him from 1666, and he appears to have continued there until the settlement was destroyed in 1675. As early as 1655 the Rev. Fletcher became the minister at Wells, Maine, but owing to certain unorthodox views of his, was dismissed in October 1660. From this time until the outbreak of the Indian war in 1675 he resided in Saco supplying the pulpit except for short intervals from year to year. Reverend Seth Fletcher, the first of the numerous Fletcher family existing today, and from whom Fletcher's Neck at Biddeford derived its name. He was a minister until 1675 and he hated Episcopalians
