~MY ANCESTOR~ THOMAS HAWLEY was the son of CAPT. JOSEPH & LYDIA (MARSHALL) HAWLEY of Northampton, Mass. and grandson of CAPT. SAMUEL MARSHALL of Hartford, CT who was killed by Indians in the Great Swamp Fight in R.I. and probably buried at Smith's Castle in R.I. and his wife MARY (WILTON) MARSHALL and grandson of THOMAS HAWLEY of Parwich, Derby, England who was also killed by Indians at Sudsbury, Mass. in the Pequot War and his wife, DOROTHY.
Rev. Thomas Hawley was ordained in 1712/1713 and was the first pastor at Ridgefield and married ABIGAIL GOLD about 1712. Their house was one of the first built in Ridgefield and still stands (pictured). It is a private residence. His tombstone is the oldest in the Titicus Cemetery (now part of the Ridgefield Cemetery).
Thomas & Agigail are buried with three of their children: Lt. Joseph Hawley, Ebenezer Hawley, and Capt. Thomas Hawley, and two grandchildren: Talcott Hawley and John Gold Hawley.

Burial: Titicus Cemetery Ridgefield Fairfield County Connecticut, USA Plot: Buried in the "Old Settlers or Titicus" part of cemetery off Main Street (Ridgefield) on Route 116. Entering the cemetery at the "Old Settlers" sign go down the road almost to the end. Thomas & Abigail's stones are on the right side of the road up a small hill facing and overlooking the road. They are small stones.
