MEMORIAL PHOTOS 0 FLOWERS 2 Born in Abbeville, South Carolina, on 5 Jun 1787 to James Rosamond. Some give his mother's name as Lettice Rosamond and others say Mary Doharty. He married Elizabeth A. Williams and had 10 children.

Thomas A. Rosamond was a noted Methodist minister. Records show that Rev. T. A. Rosamond served from December 1817 to 1819 in the Ediso District, South Carolina, as a circuit rider. At the Conference of 1819 he was listed and at the Conference of 1820 he was ordained. In 1821 he was appointed to the Broad River District, Wateree Station, and was listed in the annual conferences from 1821 through 1825.

Rev. Rosamond moved his family to Mississippi in 1841 and settled near his wife's mother and brother James Turley Mayhew, and near the Mayhew plantation owned by his wife's sister and brother-in-law. "He built a small Methodist church on his 800-acre plantation and was licensed to "solemnize the rites of matrimony." His home stood above the east bank of Knight's Creek and the family cemetery lies on the Perrys' Pleasant Retreat plantation adjoining the Rosamond and Williams plantations.

"Thomas A. Rosamond was born in Abbeville District, SC on 5th June 1787 and died in Yalobusha County, MS Nov. 30th, 1861 in his 73rd year. He was converted and joined the M.E. Church in early life; became a member of the SC Conference in 1817;traveled as an itinerant for five years; retired from the Conference in 1824 and located in Abbeville District where he served the church as a local preacher, as circumstances would admit, until in 1841 he moved with his family to Mississippi where he labored faithfully for the church of his choice and its interests until infirmity confined him home. The gospel proved a solace and comfort in all his afflictions, and enabled him to say when apprised of nearing dissolution, "All is well." During his sickness no murmur of complaint fell from his lips. He retained the gift of speech and reason till near his end. As a man he was domestic in his habits, exact in all his dealings, attentive and liberal to the poor, and always ready to contribute freely to the support of the gospel and its instrumentalities. As a neighbor, kind and accommodating; he shared the respect and confidence of all who knew him. And he thus died as he had lived the faithful servant of his Blessed Master, in bright prospects of the resurrection of the just."

Rev. Thomas A. Rosamond's will, dated 8 February 1860, was recorded in Yalobusha County 9 January 1862. His estate was divided equally between his children, and two granddaughters were to receive their mother's share.

Two of his descendants who joined the DAR on the Revolutionary War service of father, James Rosamond, were: Mrs. Mabel Martin Moorehead,#542939 and Vera Schulz Phillips, #490096.

Vera Phillips wrote that his grave marker matched that of his wife Elizabeth Williams. Another time she stated it was very ornate and was thought to have been stolen by thieves (or disappeared) before 1953. There are many more markers sunken. It's possible his could be buried there as there are numerous sunken markers in this cemetery.
