About Rev. Thomas Walley, Sr.

Thomas Walley was one of the first religious leaders of the pilgrims that came to the new colony.

Rector of St. Mary's White Chapel in London; he was ejected as a non-conformist under Charles II. came to America on ship "Society", Capt. John Pierce. He was admitted to Barnstable, Ma in 1662 and became pastor of the church in 1663.

All of Thomas children were with his first wife Margery ____, Their daughters Mary and Lydia were born in London while Thomas was rector of the church. Lydia was baptized April 11, 1650.[1]

Thomas & Margery's children were:

  1. John Walley (1643-1712) who was one of the original proprietors of Bristol, Rhode Island.[2]. Married Sarah Blossom.
  2. Hannah Walley, born 1645; married Samuel Allyn of Barnstable May 10, 1664; died December 23, 1700.
  3. Thomas Walley (Junior), born about 1646, a merchant in Barnstable and married Hannah Bacon
  4. Mary Walley, born 4/18/1644; married Job Crocker in 1668
  5. Lydia Walley, baptized April 16, 1650 at St. Mary's Church, White Chapel; buried July 18, 1651 in White Chapel [3]
  6. (Elizabeth?) Walley who married Jacob Jesson

As a widower, he married as his second wife Mrs. Sarah Clark in the autumn of 1676.[2]
