About Rev. William Hall, Free Settler “Anne” 1810
Carpenter from Carlisle, England. He arrived in New South Wales, 1810. Four years later he sailed with his wife on the brig Active for the missionary settlement at Bay of Islands, New Zealand. He worked there under the Rev. Samuel Marsden, 1815-1825 till bad health forced his return to Sydney. (See: Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, Vol 1 - incorrectly gives his death date as 28 Oct 1832) Source: National Library of New Zealand.
Headstone: Sacred to the memory of WILLIAM HALL The first Missionary who landed on the Shores of New Zealand. He came to this Colony with the Revd S. Marsden A.D. 1810 and died at Black Town March 6th 1844
