Migrated to Corpus Christi, Sept. 30, 1876; B.A. 1880; M.A. 1883. Ord. deacon (Bath and Wells) 1893; priest, 1894; C. of Keynsham, Somerset, 1893-4. C. of Emmanuel Church, W. Hampstead, London, 1894-7. C. of St Barnabas, Cambridge, 1897-1903. V. of St Philip's, Cambridge, 1903-28. Leader of the Ely Diocesan Mission to the Deaf and Dumb. A strong supporter of Church Schools, raising funds for putting them on a proper footing in Cambridge. Died Aug. 15, 1928. Brother of Alfred (1876), Stanley (1868) and Thomas H. (1863). In the 1881 census, the newly-weds Charles and Helen were living at Dial House, 6 De Montalt Place, Combe Down. Their first child, Lucy Gertrude Howard, was born in Combe Down in December 1881. Combe Lodge was up for sale in 1884, and it is likely that Charles Howard bought it then.

Monkton Combe Junior School was founded in 1888, 20 years after the Senior School. The school occupied two large Victorian houses in Church Road, Combe Down near to where Ralph Allen had his stone quarries. The first Headmaster was Mr Charles Howard whose wife was the daughter of The Rev R Bryan, the Principal of the Senior School. Initially, there were 4 boys all told! Today there are are 260 boys and girls at Monkton Prep.

Resigned as Headmaster at Monkton Combe Junior School in 1893.

St Philip' s mission church, Mill road, Romsey town erected in 1890 at a cost, including site, of £2,500 as a chapel of ease to St. Barnabas, is an edifice of red brick, consisting of chancel, nave and western porch.

The Rev. Charles Howard, M.A. of Corpus Christi College, has been curate in charge since 1897. The population of St. Barnabas ecclesiastical parish is now (1900) 8,700.

In 1901, living at 11 Willis Road, Cambridge (see 1901 Census, Sources). At this census date neither Lucy Howard nor her mother Helen were at home.

Charles Howard remained nostalgic for his earlier home in Monkton Combe.
