Rev. Smythe was the first rector of St Barnabas Church in 1890 and served there for 32 years. As a member of the Mayflower descendants, he kept extensive genealogical records of other Falmouth, MA residents. He set up the prestigious Smythe Scholarship offered to college bound students in town.
