About Reverend Peter Ware

Peter Ware, b. c1706, was the son of Valentine Ware, Jr. In his will dated 1741, we learn he had previously received 214 plus acres on Tuckahoe Creek in Goochland Co., VA from his father, which he then wills to his brother Henry [John Ware to be one of his executors]. There are two land patents by Valentine Ware, Jr. which can be seen on-line at the Virginia State Library Archives showing he patented a total of 429 acres in Tuckahoe Creek (Patent 11, p. 203, dated 9/5/1723 by Valentine Ware in Henrico Co., 262 acres in the fork of Tuckahoe creek on the north side of the James River; and Patent 12, p. 122, dated 12/10/1724 by Valentine Ware in Henrico Co., 167 acres on the north side of the James River, in a great fork of Tuckahoe Creek. By dividing 429, you have 214 plus acres, the amount each brother received from their father, Valentine Ware, Jr.

Peter Ware, whose will, recorded in March, 1742, at Goochland C. H., mentions his loving wife, Judith, and their six children. Her marriage bond with Samuel Jordan is dated February 28, 1745 (present style), and Thomas Ballard Smith is the security. She also bore to Col. Samuel Jordan at least three daughters : Paulina, who married Col. John Cabell ; Wilhelmina, who married Col. John Wyatt; and Caroline Matilda, who married Col. Hugh Rose.

Mrs. Judith Scott (Ware) Jordan was an aunt of Gen. Charles Scott, a soldier in the French and Indian war, and in the Revolution, and afterwards governor of Kentucky.

Peter Ware III's will was probated in Henrico Cty, VA on 6/8/1741 (See Virginia Historical Index, page 314) and names legatees (1) "Brother Henry Ware, land in Goochland Cty, VA which was willed to me by our father"; (2) Wife: Judith; (3) Son: John; (4) Daughters: Sarah and Judith, (5) Son: Henry II. Peter Ware III also had a will probated in Goochland Cty, VA on 3/16/1741. (See Ware, Peter, (W) D.B. # 3, page 526, 16 Mar 1741). See copy typed below:
