[B. 1783.] School, Leicester (Mr Heyrick). Matric. Michs. 1801; Scholar, 1802; B.A. 1805; M.A. 1808. Ord. deacon (Lichfield) 1806; priest, 1807. P.C. of Rocester, Staffs., 1812 (vacant, 1820). P.C. of St John's, Derby, 1829-46. Assistant Lecturer at All Saints', Derby, 1850-2. Married, 1815, Elizabeth, dau. and co-heiress of Chadwick Dod. Lived latterly at Duffield Bank, Derby. Author, religious. Died 1870. Brother of the next; father of Frederick (1839), John P. (1834) and Charles A. (1837).

On the death of his brother John Sherbrooke Gell, the Rev. Philip was made joint guardian with his sister in law's brother, Charles Parker, of John Sherbrooke's children.



Philip III was the son of Philip Gell Jr. and Elizabeth Wright. Philip married Elizabeth Dodd. They had two children:

He was the Assistant rector of All Saints Church in Derby, 1851, Duffield Bank, Duffield, Derbyshire.

He was also Clergyman of Church of England without care of souls, 1861, Duffield Bank, Duffield, Derbyshire.
