Family

Reynold Bush was married twice. First to Elizabeth,[4] and secondly to Susannah Lovett.[4]

Renold and Elizabeth had at least one known child:

  1. John Bush

a fine was issued to "Jno." Bush and his father Renold dated 14th day 11th month 1655[11]

it is suggested that this John Bush was the father of Joseph Bush from Newton Massachusetts[2] and of Samuel and Jonathan from Springfield/Westfield Massachusetts[4]

Renold Bush married Susannah Lovett on 2 September 1678 in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[14]

Renold and Susannah had the following children:

  1. Hannah Bush b 1682 [4]. Married George Rood.
  2. Unknown Bush b abt. 1684 [4]

Disputed Children

  • Son Reynold: It is sometimes proposed that Reynold had a son named Reynold who married Susannah Lovett, but the sources cited above accept that Reynold was "old" when he married Susannah.
  • Jonathan Bush (abt.1650-1739) may be a son or grandson of Reynold. A misreading of the 1655 fine to Reynold Bush and his son "Jno. Bush"[11] as "Jonathan Bush" had been interpreted that he had a son of this name.
  • John Bush (1633-1663) of Cambridge, may also be a son of Reynold[2]
  • Samuel Bush (abt.1642-abt.1733) Suggested by DeForest and Deforest[4]
  • Deborah Bush, wife of John MacCoone, suggested by DeForest and Deforest as a daughter or granddaughter[4]

Reynold was the son of a yeoman farmer in Messing, Essex, a village that nowadays has one pub, one restaurant, no shops and 350 inhabitants. It's a place where the houses have names instead of numbers, and where streets are so few that the main one through the village is officially called The Street.

Essex is the county immediately east of London and Messing is set among gently undulating open fields of wheat, barley and rapeseed.
