About Rfn. Albert Rimmington Lusk
Rifleman Albert Rimmington Lusk was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1882 and was the son of a Scottish immigrant, John Aitken Lusk (1856-1934), a Carpenter and Joiner, and Annie Rimmington (1860-1934). His father's family was originally from Ayrshire and the Isle of Cumbrae on the west coast of Scotland, and had travelled out to New Zealand in the 1860's. Albert grew up at Tinwald, Ashburton and worked as a labourer before enlisting in the New Zealand Army. He was with fighting with reinforcements to the 3rd Battalion NZ Rifle Brigade, when he was killed in action on June 1917 at Messines, (now Mesen) in Belgian Flanders, on the Western Front at the age of 34. In addition to the War Grave at La Plus Douve Farm Cemetery in Belgium, he is commemorated in the Lusk family plot at Ashburton Cemetery in New Zealand.
