About Rfn. Athol Kitchen

Athol Kitchen was born in Killarney, Southern Downs, Queensland, Australia on 15 February 1894. He was the son of James Kitchen and Elizabeth Kitchen (nee Carey) who had married in Queensland on 8 June 1892. The family moved to New Zealand and lived in Palmerston North. During World War I Athol served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion. He was killed in action at Ypres in Belgium and was buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery.
