About Rfn. Wilfred George Hosie
Wilfred George Hosie was born at Wellington in New Zealand's North Island on 26 January 1897 (reg. 1897/1811). His parents were Robert Hosie and Susan Alice Hosie (nee Prince) who had married in Hopper Street, Wellington, on 25 December 1885. Wilfred worked as a letter carrier before he joined the New Zealand Rifle Brigade during World War I (reg. WWI 25/1052). He was killed in action at the Somme in Northern France and buried in the Bulls Road Cemetery, [II. H. 21.]. His brother, Alfred James Hosie, had died of wounds just two months earlier, on 16 July 1916 at the No. 1 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in France (bio by Debbie McCauley, 15 January 2022).
