Rhudie Binta (2005 - 2022)
Brief overview:
Rhudie (17), his mother Sesi Binta Smit (55), stepson of farmer Alheit Smit (77), and five female workers, Nokufa Portia Monareng (30), Lerato Julia Moloi (33), Mothoduwa Paulina Moloi (36), Nomasonto Christina Zulu (56), and Nomasontsha Topsy Maduna (43), were shot dead on the Smits farm in Kestell, FS on 15th July 2022.
Two suspects were arrested the following day on a road near Bohlokong township. 34-year-old Kamohelo Motankisi and his co-accused 22-year-old Lerato Selepemade are facing 12 charges including seven counts of murder, two charges of rape, one of robbery with aggravating circumstances, another one of housebreaking with intent to steal and illegal possession of a firearm.
“Two firearms, a shotgun and pellet gun believed to have been stolen from the farmhouse were recovered with the possibility one of the firearms could be the murder weapon,” Police spokesperson Brig. Mokhele said.
"The FF Plus condemns the brutal and senseless farm attack outside Kestell in the Free State in which seven people were killed. They commended the swift response by the police and the arrest of two suspects near the Bohlokong settlement just outside Bethlehem. Two stolen firearms, among other things, were recovered."
"The Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Baile Motswenyane and members of Thabo Mofutsanyana District, Crime Intelligence, K9 Unit and Public Order Police were commended by the Premier of the Free State, Honorable Sisi Ntombela and Police, Roads and Transport MEC, Mr William Bulwane."
A memorial service of the seven victims was held at Tlhlolong Multipurpose Centre near Kestell
The accused will appear again in the Kestell court on 14th September 2022. They both abandoned their bail applications.
