Richard Arey was born around 1640, possibly in Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts.

He married about 1676 Sarah Marchant, daughter of Lieut. John Marchant.

He died 14 FEB 1688 in Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts, according to the diary of Rev. William Homes.

His widow married secondly 16 Nov 1696 Thomas Harlock (citing Cf. Banks, History of Martha's Vineyard 1:496)
