After his father repudiated Morgan, his son by first wife, Richard became the heir to the estate at Abercynrig.
Richard (1) Awbrey, of Aberkynfrig, was the eldest son of William and Jane (Herbert) Awbrey, and inherited the lands of Aberkynfrig at the death of his father, but sold them to his cousin, Dr. William Awbrey. He married Margaret, daughter of Thomas Gunter and died in 1580, leaving a son.
