Richard Burton Born on 1722 at Goochland Co. VA Died in 1779 or in 1775. No will, administration of estate 7/8/1779. Awarded 400 lb of tobacco on 1732 at Goochland Co. VA for two wolves heads. He was a small boy at the time. Note: the will of Peter Bernard on 1754 at Glouchester Co. VA mentions land bought from Noel Burton and from Richard Burton (Tyler's Quarterly ~1954). James Larkin Ballou, Physician And Surgeon by Eleanor Baker (excerpt in Alleghany Heritage #156) says: "Ann Burton's father, John Pleasant Burton was a son of Richard Burton who on 12/28/1773 (12/16/1773 in Simeon O. Coxe papers) along with son-in-law George Reeves patented land on the Virginia-NC border, Reeves in Virginia in what is now Grayson County and Burton in Wilkes County North Carolina." (Land west and east sides of New River respectively near Hook's Mill NC ) Burton material in Heritage of Alleghany Co., Mrs. Forrest Knox, Sr. lists above Burton line before Noel but Richard is not listed in Noel's will as son. Perhaps Richard and John of will are same person. This line with spouse Mary Pleasants does not appear in Burton Chronicles (under any parents).

Richard was the son of Hutchins Burton and Susanna Allen. He married Mary Ann Pleasants. They had 3 children:

He married Mary Pleasants Bet. 1757 - 1777 in Virginia. Mary Pleasants, born Abt. 1738 in Virginia; died Bet. 1796 -1856 in Virginia. She was the daughter of John Pleasants and Margaret Jordan.

Children of Richard Burton and Mary Pleasants:

i. Jane Burton, born 1754 in Virginia; died 1811 in Grayson Co., Virginia; married George Reeves 1770 in Virginia; born 1735 in Ashe Co.,North Carolina; died 1811 in Grayson Co., Virginia.

iii. John Pleasant Burton, born 08 July 1758 in Virginia; died 04 July 1836 in Lawrence Co., Indiana; married Suzannah Stamper 1779 in Ashe Co., North Carolina
