Richard Campe of Snowes (1533-1584) 9. Richard Campe, son of Thomas and Margery, was born abt 1533 in Nazeing; died aft 17 August 1584 when his will was written. He married Elizabeth [unknown] about 1553 in Nazeing. Richard was also a yeoman farmer. Elizabeth survived her husband by 23 years. She wrote her will in 18 Mar 1605 and it was probated 12 May 1607. Only his two daughters are mentioned in his will, but as a nuncupative will it could only deal with personal property. His wife’s will names three living sons—Francis, William and Henry—and one deceased son Thomas. She also numbers the children of Thomas, but only names his daughter Rose. Snowes probably went automatically to eldest son Thomas and Richard’s heir. Robert Hall is also mentioned in his will who may be his cousin Richard’s brother-in-law (brother of Magdalen Hall); John Banyster may be his uncle or another relative of his mother; and Wyllim Curtes (William Curtis) is probably his daughter Mary’s future father-in-law. The known children of Richard and Elizabeth were: 24. i. Mary Campe born 1 Dec 1560 in Nazeing; died 24 Nov 1594.
