(which includes)

  • In his life in Germany, Richard is said to have been a Lieut. under Generalfeldmarschall Helmuth Carl Bernhard von Moltke. It is interesting that Col. James Forsyth was appointed the official US Army observer of this conflict. He had been stationed in the Northwwest at the time of the Bannock War.. Col Forsyth later lead the 7th cavalry at Wounded Knee.
  • according to military records, Richard Daverkosen (b. Aix La Chapelle Germany) deserted his US 8th Infantry unit July 21, 1888; he was on his 3rd tour of duty having reenlisted at San Francisco on the 14th of June 1886 for a 5 year tour of duty.
  • quite a story at The San Francisco Call (San Francisco, California) 07 Jun 1899, Wed Page 7

"Robbed a Poor Box / Now Heir to Thousands"
After service for the Third Reich, he joined the US Infantry and enlisted for 3 tours of duty. His enthusiasm for the military waned and he deserted.

The newspaper report of his inheritance details that he had had a 1st wife who left him and returned to Germany with their three children. Evidently the split was permanent. Their names are not recorded as of yet.

It is confusing to see that Richard is still a house painter in 1910 after being in line to inherit a fortune. He moved to Sonoma Valley, Santa Rosa Township, 921 Benton is his address where he rented.

Daverkosen was a Labor activist and closely aligned with his second wife's anarchist and communist causes.
