About Richard Dole
A source states: "Ringworthy had been the residence of his grandfather, Richard, and his father William inherited the homestead there. Afterward, William, then living in Thornbury, indentured young Richard to 'John Lowle, glover, of Bristol.' (The same Lowell as Lowell, MA.) When the brothers, John and Richard Lowell and their father, Percival came to this country in 1639, they brought Richard Dole with them as a clerk. The Lowell family settled in Newbury, MA, and Richard Dole continued as a clerk in their employ for a time. After his service, Richard entered into great activity and enterprise and built his own business. Being a leather craftsman, he primarily made jerkins and boots for early settlers." He died in 1705 and is buried in the Old Burial Ground in Newbury.
Richard and Hannah (Rolfe) Dole, were married May 3, 1647. Richard Dole was a resident of Newbury as early as 1639. His wife, Hannah Rolfe, died November 16, 1678. (Cutter, p 2477, Genealogical Memoirs ... vol 4). 10 children. Richard married second, 4 Mar 1678/79, Hannah, widow of Samuel Brocklebank. There were no children from this second marriage.
