About Richard Evans
Richard Ap Evan: For years there has been a story in the Evans family that Richard Evans (born 1703) came from Wales in 1674 and settled in Camden, Gloucester Co., NJ (formed in 1686), which became Camden, Camden Co., NJ in 1844. However it is noted that Camden County was not formed until 1686. According to Gordon C. Baker of Rockville, MD., there is not one shred of documentary evidence to support the story that Richard Evans (born) 1703 settling in Camden, NJ. It is clear from information provided by Gordon C. Baker that he lived in Calvert Co., MD, which was formed in 1654. Calvert Co., Maryland was partitioned into St. Mary's, Charles and Prince George's Counties, Maryland in 1695. Therefore references to Richard Evans living in both Calvert County and Prince George's County, could have very well been in the exact same place.
