Richard Hall was born in Calvert County, Maryland around 1690. His marriage is recorded in the West River Quaker Meeting Minutes: Richard Hall, son of Elisha and Sarah of Calvert County married the 4th day of 7th month called September 1712 to Mary Johns, widow of Aquila, late of Calvert County at the Clifts. [1]

The inventory of Richard Hall's estate was not taken until 24 MAY 1740 when it was valued at 1032.7.9 pounds. He owned 53 ozs. of silver valued at 28.18.10, but enslaved people had the largest value. Many of them were children including 12 identified as boys by their names. An indentured servant named Jonathan Whitehead is also named. Livestock included 14 horses, 28 head of cattle and lots of pigs. Only the typical pieces of furnture are listed and 11,641 pounds of tobacco worth 97.0.2. Mary Hall, one of the people called Quakers, affirmed the completeness of the inventory as the executor and Philip Hopkins and Elisha Hall signed as next of kin.[2]
