About Sir Richard Haute
Notes for Richard Haute: Controller of the Prince of Wales's household (the son of Edward IV, Edward, one of the princes murdered during the reign of Richard III). See P. M. Kendall, Richard the Third, p. 184. He was part of the conspiracy led by the duke of Buckingham, the 'great rebellion" of 1483 to topple Richard III and put (the already dead) Edward V in power, and when it was known that Edward was dead, Henry Tudor. Sir Richard was among the men in Kent and Surrey whose job it was to seize London, as had happened over 100 years earlier in the rebellion of Wat Tyler (in which John Ball also figured prominently). In this they were not successful, and retired to Guildford to await the outcome of events in the west. Kendall's notes indicate that there were two Richard Hautes. One of them may have been executed by Richard III, and the other was attainted but later pardoned.
