It was at the Lead Mine City and on the Galena river that young Richard Kimbel received his introduction to the ferrying and general boating business. later he moved to Bellevue Iowa and for many years was engaged in the work of ferrying passengers and teams and transporting produce to and fro on the "Father of Waters" He had 4 wives and 24 children, Owned Kimbel's Island situated in the Mississippi River just above the Dubuque Lock & Dam 11Was known as Captain Kimbel, one of the oldest and wealthiest river men on the Mississippi river. He died on June 18, 1910, in Dubuque, Iowa, at the age of 70, and was buried in Bellevue, Iowa
