About Richard F Leingang

Richard F. Leingang, 82, Mandan, died Aug. 11, 2012, surrounded by family at Mandan Medcenter One Care Center off Collins. Rite of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with Rev. Johnson Kuriappilly as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, with military honors provided by the VFW Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.

Richard was born Dec. 7, 1929, to Frank G. and Mary (Beckler) Leingang in Solen. He was raised and educated in St. Anthony. He married Ann Miller on June 15, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Navy, he served his country well until 1952 and remained proud of his military service all his life. While in the Navy, he was stationed aboard the USS Goodrich, a destroyer. When he returned home, he worked in the grocery business, until retirement.

Richard was a compassionate, thoughtful and honorable man who profoundly loved his family and friends. He enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them. Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter were very special times for him, everyone was together. His family will always remember the helping hand he would give them on their home projects or the love he put into his hand-crafted wood projects; like his yard ornaments. Richard’s compassion and enjoyment of life did not stop with his family, it extended to the customers and friends he had the pleasure of meeting over the years. He was a proud member of the American Legion.

Left with wonderful memories of him and an example of a life well lived, are his wife, Ann; his daughters, Mary Ann (Curt) Simons, Baldwin, and Alice (Lenus) Berger and Arlene (Tim) Oster, both of Mandan; his sons, James (Donna), Paul (Kelly) and Gerard (Tammy), all of Mandan; 16 grandchildren; 12 soon to be 13 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Christine (Dick) Moon, Spokane, Wash., Irene Leingang, Waseca, Minn., and Viola (Matt) Baltus, Minneapolis; and one brother-in-law, Bob Feiler, St. Cloud, Minn.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lillian (Bob) Feiler and, Bernice Fitterer; and an infant sister and an infant brother.
