Richard Newberry of Weymouth and Malden, MA is an enigma after twenty years of study. Research into his family has created a wealth of information about Newburgh/Newberry studies everywhere. Still, we are unsure from where immigrated before arriving in New England circa 1643 where he is recorded as a Freeman. For the past ten years, various records in the UK have been accessed in an attempt to find his root family. Theories exist, however they remain only theoretical. His descendants are thought to have been families who settled in Connecticut, but this is not unequivocally proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. These Newberry's who settled on the lands of North Groton, Connecticut, among the Native people were further thought to have migrated inland to N.Y. along the Oblong and Little Nine Patent. They settled near the Monrovians who were ministering to the Indians of the area.

Newberry, Richard, Weymouth, freeman. 1645, by wife Sarah had Tryal, Joseph, and Dorcas, beside Benjamin, born 22 may 1660. In this year he purchaced land at Malden, and removed thither, made his imperfect will 20 Mar. 1685, and his inventory has date of 7 Apr. following. Bejamin was prob dead long before his father as also was dead Martha, who died May 1676.
