The death of Mr Richard Doidge Nosworthy, formerly of Blenheim, occurred yesterday at Wanganui, where he had been residing for the last six years. The deceased, who had attained the age of 87 years, was born at Plymouth,. England, and came out to New Zealand with three brothers, one of whom was the late Mr William Nosworthy, Town Clerk at Blenheim for many years. Having spent some time on the gold diggings at Gabriel's Gully, the deceased settled down at Blenheim, reaching this place.between 50' and 60 years ago, and setting up a drapery business. Subsequently he was a commission agent, and received several responsible public positions. He was Returning Officer, Official Assignee, and secretary of the Lower Wairau River Board. He was a very old Freemason, being initiated in Lodge Unanimity on the day it was opened—in November, 1869. Mr Nosworthy twice married, and his second wife predeceased him about 12 years ago. He leaves five daughters of the first marriage and one of the second. They are: Mrs H. Morrison, of Wellington: Mrs Alfred Green, of Wanganui; Mrs McLean, wife of Major McLean (formerly of Feilding and now in England); Mrs Young, of Manaia.; Sister Nosworthy, .of the Dunedin Hospital; and! Mrs Bert Pemberton, of Wellington.
