Richard PARKER - b. about 1677, Nansemond Co., VA; d. about 1752, Chowan Co., NC.

Son of Richard PARKER and Miss PENDER.

Lived in that portion of Nasemond Co., VA that became part of Chowan Co., NC in 1728, and appointed a justice for Chowan Precenct 1731. He received patents between 1718 and 1749 to just over 1000 acres in Upper Parish of Nansemond and near the head of Bennett's Creek in what is now Gates Co., NC. Will dated Sep. 22, 1749, and admitted to probate in Chowan Co., NC in Apr. 1752. One of his wives died in the summer of 1728, but his will indicates he was survived by another. Richard's lengthy will mentions 14 surviving children, and reveals that he, like his father and grandfather, acquired much land during his lifetime. Since his youngest two sons received no real estate, it is possible that they had received land transfers previously.

His children are listed below in what is believed to be birth order.

Married Elizabeth KING - Daughter of Henry KING and Catherine.

Probably married second a Miss SWAN, and possibly married a third time.

taken from PARKER - From the files of Stephen M. Lawson

Richard PARKER - b. about 1653/4, probably in Nansemond Co., VA; d. after 1714, Nansemond Co., VA. Son of Richard PARKER I. Resided in that portion of Nansemond Co., VA which later became part of NC. Richard received land by grant in 1681 after the death of his father. However, patents for this land were not issued until Apr. 26, 1698, in parcels of 100 and 400 acres. He received additional land patents between 1698 and 1714 for a total of nearly 700 acres located near his existing holdings and the head of Bennett's Creek in what is now Gates Co., NC.

Miss PENDER - No further information known. Surname is from family tradition, and as recorded by Foxhall PARKER. A PENDER appears on the 1704 Quit Rent roll of Nansemond Co., VA.

Richard Parker II had two sons named Richard Parker III; one by his first wife, name unknown (possible last name Pender), and his last child by his second wife, Sarah Turner.

Note that the second Richard Parker III's death date is confirmed - 22 Sept 1749.

Note that the first Richard Parker III's death date is approximated, with the knowledge that he died before his half-brother - BEFORE 22 Sept 1749.

NOTE: I (WNP) took on the project of trying to connect all the members of Parker DNA FG#7 back to our common ancestor William Parker born 1604. I have enjoyed every hour that I have spend trying to do the best research that I can.

Parker y-DNA Project http://web.utk.edu/~corn/parkerdna/

One of the newest tools that we can unitized in genealogy research is DNA testing. Y-DNA testing results can tell us that we have a common male ancestor, the results can not tell us how we are kin only that we are kin. The Y chromosome, which is passed directly from father to son, unchanged, from generation to generation. Unchanged, that is, unless a mutation—a random, naturally occurring, usually harmless change—occurs. The mutation, known as a marker, acts as a beacon; it can be mapped through generations because it will be passed down from the man in whom it occurred to his sons, their sons, and every male in his family for many thousands of years. These mutations establish genetic signatures, called haplotypes, that define particular branches within a family tree. The haplotypes of tested individuals can be used to confirm, or alter as necessary, the structure of family trees which in the past had to be based on paper-based historical research, family tradition and logical inferences that could be drawn from them.

NOTE: All the Parker families of Parker FG#7 can be traced back to one common male ancestor using y-DNA testing but DNA testing can only tell us we are kin but not how. Thus the results can be used by researchers as a tool to help find the paper trail that will tell us how.

The P#s are assigned by the Parker DNA Project.

Note: I will use this as a way to connection the Parker families till we can find the correction back to our common ancestor. Wayne Nelson Parker P239 FG#7 I enjoy doing this research it is a labor of love on my part. I hope other can and will be able to use the information that I have included in this file to fill in the blanks in their genealogy research. This genealogy research is my way of remembering the ones who have passed on as I too will be gone someday. Remember to start each and every day off with a smile. WNP

NOTE: Not all the Parker families listed in my file are part of FG#7 AS I also research many of the other Parker families when they have interconnect with the other families in my file.

From: Wayne Parker [mailto:waynenparker@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, November 25, 2013 3:49 PM To: West, Dennis R Subject: Question about FG#7 mutation rates

Hello Dennis,

I know you are busy so I will keep this short.

I am enclosing an e-mail see below. It is about mutation rates, I know I had ask you a question several years ago and your answer helped me then but now I need to learn all I can about this subject.

I would like for you to send me some good web links and/or literature that will help me gain more knowledge about the subject of mutation rates.

I think based on the small amout of knowledge that I have, that the mutation rates could occur more often that was first thought but I don't have the knowledge to say for sure one way or the other.

Thanks Wayne N. Parker P239 FG#7"

West, Dennis R

Dec 21, 2013 To me Wayne,

Please accept my apology for the delay in responding to your request. I have lots of excuses but they don’t change the facts. Here are some web sites that have information about mutation rates: http://www.worldfamilies.net/ydna

Here is a wiki page that lists several articles on the subject of Y-DNA mutations: http://www.isogg.org/wiki/Mutation_rates

Mutations are rare and unpredictable events. We can estimate the mutation rates pretty good when we consider thousands of DNA samples, however when we narrow the consideration down to a comparison of only two men, the variation in mutation rates is large. We see men who match exactly and their common ancestor lived 7 or 8 generations back. We also have an uncle – nephew pair who differ by 3 mutations. So it is problematic in trying to determine exactly how many generations there are back to a common ancestor based on the number of mutation differences between those two men.

Not sure this will help, and you probably already have the information you are seeking.

The three Richard Parker that lived in early VA all at the same time. by Wayne N. Parker

Revisited and or updates on the research of the three Richard Parker that lived in early VA all at the same time. It seems like so many researcher are getting the three different Richard Parker mixed up. Richard Parker of Nansemond Co., VA. Richard Parker, Dr. of Charles City Co., and Henrico Co., VA Richard Parker of Surry Co., VA First let me say that I have more knowledge on the Richard Parker of Nansemond Co., VA (also know as y-DNA FG#7, I am P239 of that group), than the two other Richard Parker. Therefore I want to thank the many researcher of the two other Richard Parker. I hope that what I am posting will start to help clear up some of the confusion about which descendants belong to each Richard Parker. As always please do your own research. This is a link to my on-line file where I have all three Richard Parker listed.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=parker_20... 16149

At this time I have not found and connections between the three Parker families on the male lines. There may be connection back in England and I would not be surprised to find connection on the female line in the USA. I am only listing a few of the first generations from each line on PH and not all children are listed as this too is a work in progress.

New Info on William Parker and Martha Perrin Posted by: Marge Gish (ID *****4629) Date: July 23, 2013 at 15:10:26 of 26430

Hello, My interest in these William Parkers is that my 1 Peter Hudson daughter Sarah married Edward Parker. 1 Peter land was in Henrico/Lunenburg/Halifax on Difficult Creek. So while searching for Sarah Hudson Parker family I came upon these two Parker families. They were born about the same time, 1740's.

One William Parker lived on Mirey Creek area of Halifax Co. Va and is connected with Hendrick, Colquitt, Easley and family lines in Charlotte Co.VA. And is connected to the Dr. Richard Parker family. The William Parker of Mirey Creek married Martha Perrin .(NOTE: SEE NEW INFO IN POST ABOVE W.N. P.) I have not yet discovered where this William Parker and his children went. I did find that a William Parker of Mirey Creek married a Ann Hendrick. So it possible their William Parker had son William Parker the jr. Giving the list of people living around William Parker and Obediah Parker. Now look at the Tax list for 1782 and 1785

Look at the people who lived around William and Obediah Parker. August 21, 1777 Road Order: Humphrey Hendrick appointed Surveyor for the road from Evans Creek to the New Court House at Borams’. Ordered that the said Humphrey with male laboring tithables belonging to himself, to John Moore, Sr., Abraham Easley, Charles Smith, James Hardage, William Estes, Robert Bennett, Edward Powell, John Childress, the Widow Neal, William Gent, James Gent, William Evans, Ezekiel Slaughter, William Daniel, William Murphy, William Parker, Obediah Parker, George Wood, Moses Hendrick,William [obliterated], William Bixby, James Brown, John Eppes, Moses Terry, Moore Matlock, William Daniel, John Pruitt, William Kerley, and Robert Durham do go forth and clear and keep said road in good repair. (Halifax County, VA, Court Orders, 8:238)

The other William Parker lived in and around the Difficult Creek are. Their families are the Owen, Nichols, Womack's, Abbott's and Jenkins of Difficult Creek area. Both William, Francis and Edward Parker lived on Difficult, Clover and Black Walnut Creek area. Their son's and daughter's married families from the same area. And they are were well acquainted with Rev. Thomas Dodson. Both William and Francis Parker went to Smith Co, Tenn and died there. Their Will's can be found on line at the Smith Co. Tenn web site. Their children along with Rev. Miles West each of the others Will.

Now look at people on Difficult Creek area 10616CO 1771-1773 1772 Halifax Mar Wood John road hands Difficult ck Fulker Fulkerson surveyor of road from the courthouse to Difficult Ck or male tithables belong to George Watkins, Richard Lamkin, Thomas Bowman, Richard Carlton, John Brewis, William Chandler, John Owen, William Whittington, William Osborne, Robert Perkins, Robert Durham, Robert Durham Jr, John Williams, Ambrose Estes, Richard Stanley and John Wood hands to clear and keep said road in repair.

Now check the 1782 Tithe list of Halifax. And you will see Edward, William and Francis Parker there. Edward is living near John Owens. William is living near Charles Hudson, which is the son of 2 Peter Hudson. And Francis is living near Ambrose Estes. Which is noted in the survey list. Hope this will help someone find the right line. Hudson Researcher
