"Bill Crawford, Uncle Dick, Walt Burns and myself [Benton Henry], visited the Prince Cemetery, Newsome Sinks, Morgan Co., AL, back in 1967 or 1971, not sure which. It was then I found the gravestone of R. Prince [our Richard Prince, husband of Mollie Raines]. It was broken into two pieces. Uncle Dick held it together while I took a picture of it. I had been poking around to find any stones, when I found his [this stone] under some leaves, etc. Close by was one of four very large, box - like tombs, probably made of sandstone. R. Prince's gravestone [the one I found] was near one of the large box like tombs. I took the picture and then placed the two pieces against the large tomb I found them by. Uncle Dick wanted to take it home, but I said we should leave it. The two pieces weren't very large at all, small enough for Uncle Dick to hold together to be photographed; the writing on it was very clearly " R. Prince Died 26 April 1856, age about 90."The big sandstone tombs were about 2 feet high at the one end, and maybe 3 at the other end. Part of the area was 'disappearing into the earth, like a cave. "Source: Benton D. Henry, March 17, 2009. " See note below.
Note to the above: According to Dene Walls, this cemetery is called the Parson's Cemetery, not to be confused with the Prince Cemetery. According to Dene Walls, Glen Bowling took the broken gravestone home with him, and Glen has since passed on, and the gravestone has not been recovered. May 2, 2009.
