Richard Scammon, II

Richard Scammon, Jr. was born Abt. 1600 in Nettleton, England, and died Abt. 1660 in Dover, New Hampshire. Notes for Richard Scammon, Jr.: [Sarah Pick.ged] Note: The time of their coming is suggestive and convinces us that they were ofthat multitude leaving their England homes to escape the tyrannous oppression of King Charles I. The fact of their coming to New England is an indication of Puritan sympathies. How long Richard remained in Boston and at what time he removed to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, we do not know. Neither do we know anything of his business and standing. It would seem that he was not without some means as his children were well educated for the times and his daughters married men of the highest standing and his sons started their careers with considerable property for young men of that period.
