About Richard Trevorrow
Accident No. 14, March 23rd. — Richard Trevarrow was fatally injured in the 40th level of No. 6 shaft, Calumet branch of the Calumet & Hecla mine by the fall of vein rock. He died at the mine hospital about an hour later.
An inquest was held before Justice Fisher.
William P. Eddy, foreman of the timber gang testified as follows: "I am a timberman. Was working at the 40th level north of No. 6 shaft, Calumet mine Richard Trevarrow, the deceased was sitting on the timber about twelve feet from where we were pinching down a piece of vein rock which extended to where the deceased was sitting and knocked the deceased off the timber. He fell down about ten feet. I had no idea that the rock was loose over where the deceased was sitting. He went there thinking he was in a safe place and out of danger. I thought he was perfectly safe in the position in which he was sitting at the time the accident occurred.“
Henry Williams, David Armit and Duncan MacLennan, who were working in the same gang upon their their oaths corroborated the evidence given by Mr. Eddy..
Verdict of the jury: “We, the jury, find that the deceased, Richard Trevarrow, came to his death by an accidental fall of vein rock at the 10th level north of No. 6 shaft, Calumet branch of the Calumet & Hecla mine. He lived about one hour after the accident occurred, this 23rd day of March, A.D. 1900."
