About Richard Winn
Richard was baptised 28 Sept. 1701 according to the Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex Co., Va. His parents were Richard and Sara Winn.
His grandparents seems to have been John Winn and Elizabeth Minor. His sister was Elizabeth Winn "baptized 18th day of April in the Yeare 1703" as noted in the Parish Register of Christ Church.
In Westmoreland, Va. before Jan. 1721 Richard married Phoebe "The Widow Pledger" (maiden name Wilkes). She was born 1701 in Westmoreland, Virginia, and died in 1748 in Amelia Co., Virginia.
On 1 Feb. 1733 Richard Winn and Phoebe sold 514 acres near the Chickahominy Swamp in St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co. to a John Winn, undoubtedly a relative. This was land that Phoebe had purchased when she was the Widow Pledger. Richard signed his name, but Phoebe marked the document with an "X" indicating that she could not write. Her consent was necessary since the land was considered part of her dowry brought to the marriage. The same day there was a further transaction as John Winn sold 140 acres to Benjamin Hawkins in St. Paul's Parish, and the witnesses were Richard and Phoebe Winn.
They later moved to Amelia County, Virginia where records show that "Richard Winn of Hanover" bought land in 1744.
Children:
