About Richard de Camville, II

Acquired the manor of Stanton, in Oxfordshire, by right of his wife, who had been given it by Queen Adela (second wife of King Henry I) before 1141. When he died in 1176, Henry II grabbed it and gave it to Richard Rufus. Henry's son Richard I restored the manor to the family in 1190, probably as a result of de Camville's only son Richard vowing to join the Third Crusade (he was killed at the siege of Acre, 1191, leaving no heirs).

Richard de Camville II had, and could have had, NO other surviving sons, or the manor of Stanton COULD NOT have passed through his daughter to her husband. Period. End of sentence.

He died in southern Italy in 1176 or 1177, while accompanying the king's daughter Joan on her journey to Palermo to be married to King William II of Sicily.
