The necrology of Reims Saint-Rémi records the death "III Kal Feb" of "RICHILDIS"[249].

Richilde of the Ardennes, or Richilde of Provence (c. 845-2 June 910), was the second wife of Charles the Bald, King and Emperor of the Franks. By her marriage, she became Queen of the West Franks, and then Empress of the Franks.
Richilde was the daughter of Bivin of Gorze, Count of the Ardennes, and the sister of Boso of Provence (of the Bosonid dynasty). Originally the concubine of Charles the Bald, she married him in 870 after the death of his first wife, Ermentrude of Orléans. She bore him five children, but only the eldest daughter, Rothilde (c. 871-c. 928), who married first Hugues of Bourges and secondly Roger of Maine, survived to adulthood. Boso was a Frankish noblemen, related to the Carolingian dynasty, and rose to be King of Provence. ...

Richildis von der Provence (auch: Richildis von den Ardennen; * um 845; † 2. Juni 910) war die zweite Frau von Kaiser Karls II. des Kahlen.
Richildis wurde als Tochter des Grafen Buvinus von Metz und den Ardennen und der Richeut von Arles geboren.
Am 22. November 870 wurde sie mit dem westfränkischen König Karl dem Kahlen (ab 875 Kaiser) verheiratet, nachdem dessen erste Frau Irmentrud von Orléans 869 verstorben war. Richildis' Tante war Theutberga, die Gemahlin von Lothar II. von Lothringen und die Verbindung sollte Karls Interessen in Lothringen stärken. Richildis gebar fünf Kinder, von denen jedoch nur eines das Erwachsenenalter erreichte. Ihr Gemahl starb im Jahre 877. Nach dem frühen Tod von Ludwig II. dem Stammler, Karls Sohn aus erster Ehe, versuchte Richildis ihrem Bruder Boso, Herzog von Burgund, den westfränkischen Thron zu sichern. Sie wurde jedoch des Inzests mit ihrem Bruder bezichtigt und ihre Pläne wurden von den westfränkischen Adeligen nicht unterstützt. Sie verhalf ihrem Bruder schließlich König von der Provence zu werden und verbrachte ihre Witwenschaft in seinem Königreich, wo sie 910 auch verstarb.
