About Richmond Terrell

Following are notes from Pauline Bizette Brandy

Paid in SC for 30 days service on horse 1781.
Listed in 1840 census as Rev. Pensioner in Newton Co., Ga.
Rev. soldier in NC. Pvt in McRees' company 6th NC Regt.
In 1790 census is next door to Philemon Terrell, Robeson Co., NC. family of self, one boy under 16 and 4 females. Moved to Liberty Co., Ga. deeds to Jesse Daniel 1-9-1868 for $220, 150 ac, bounded by Philemon and Jr. Philemon. Wife Patience, signs also. A Richard Terrell, drew land 1825 as RS in Ga Land Lottery, 16th Dist. Liberty Co. Paid 9-6-1785 in SC for 30 days of service in 1781.(Book X part I p 37.

This Richmond Terrell can be easily distinguished from the others living during the same time period in other geographic locations based on his est. birth, wife, records and death date. Like many of the others, he did indeed serve in the Revol. War as reflected on records. It is also vital to remember that following Robeson Co., NC he resided in Marlboro Co., S.C. and did NOT locate to Liberty Co., Ga. before 1808. Therefore, even though he had 4 sons, they would NOT be listed on the 1805 or 1807 land lotteries from Liberty Co., Ga. In 1805/7 you had to be 21 to enter and 18 years old to enter the 1820 land lottery. That information alone helps in further defining the sons of Richmond Terrell.

The only Terrells who entered in 1818 were Richmond Terrell, John McTerrell and James Terrell who was still single. The ONLY Terrells listed on the 1820 Census of Liberty Co., Ga. were Richmond Terrell and John Mc Terrell. Richmond drew/won land in the 1820 GA land lottery: Walton County, Ga. Lot 210 Section 3, and Early Co., Ga. Lot 334 Section 7.

This Richmond Terrell with wife PATIENCE was NOT the Richmond Terrell "of Lancaster Co., S.C.". That Richmond b: 1762 in Granville Co., NC and d: 13 Feb 1827 with wife Catherine, was indeed the son of John Terrell Jr. and his wife Susannnah Douglas as reflected on Camden District records. While that Richmond was on records in Lancaster Co., SC and later had descendants in Hinds Co., Miss., our Richmond was on records in Robeson Co., NC. There has been NO connection found between the Lancaster Co., SC Terrells and those of Liberty Co., Ga. who resided during the same time period with different wifes in different geographic locales.

It is important to remember that Richmond & Patience Terrell had a total of 10 children; 4 boys and 6 girls.
