1931 Cebu Carnival Queen In that same carnival, another beauty was named “Bito-on saBabaye”-Rita V. Pañares, daughter of Bartolome Pañares and ManuelaVillaflor of Barli. Rita was a valedictorian of her elementary andhigh school classes at Colegio dela Immaculada Concepcion. At theUniversity of the Philippines, she was a champion debater togetherwith the 1929 Miss Philippines, Pacita delos Reyes. She married a UPprofessor, Atty. Alvarez.
