River Michael Wiremu Manawatu-Wright was just 9 months old when his mother covered his face with a folded blanket and suffocated him. It was about the eleventh time Desiree Wright had tried to smother River in the baby's short life. River was resented by his mother even while he was in the womb - she requested an induced birth three weeks early against doctors' advice - and in the end she killed him because she needed attention. Desiree Wright 23, was jailed for seven years for manslaughter, later reduced to 4 due to her mental illness. Justice Grant Hammond acknowledged that she had killed River partly because she suffered from a rare psychiatric disorder called Munchausen-by-proxy. Source: 4theKids.
