Obituary

Robert N. Berntson, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at his home.

Robert was born April 22, 1921, in Idaho Falls to Fredrick Noble Berntson and Ruth Seedall Berntson. He grew up and attended area schools. He attended Idaho State University and received his degree in pharmacy.

On Aug. 12, 1946, he married Muriel Florine Scofield in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized March 6, 1956, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

During World War II, Robert served in the U.S. Navy as an ensign.

Robert worked as a pharmacist at Fogg Drug in downtown Idaho Falls at the corner of Park and A Street.

Robert was very accomplished and earned multiple awards in the pharmaceutical industry. He was the president of the Idaho State Pharmaceutical Association, recipient of the National Association of Retail Druggist-Park Davis Award for outstanding service in an area of drug abuse education and prevention, recipient of the Idaho State Pharmaceutical Association A.H. Robbins "Bowl of Hygeia" Award for outstanding service to his community, he was the Eastern Idaho Pharmaceutical Association "Pharmacist of the Year," a member of the advisory board for ISU School of Pharmacy, president of the Idaho Falls Downtown Merchants Association, and a member of the Idaho State Health and Welfare Board, the Idaho Falls Symphony Board and the Civitan Club.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a temple officiator and a member of the High Council.

Robert enjoyed fly fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Florine; sons, R. Brent Berntson of Idaho Falls and Craig R. Berntson of Provo, Utah; daughter, Jeanne Diane Berntson of Idaho Falls; sister, Joy Somers of Idaho Falls; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Idaho Falls 9th Ward building, on the corner of Second Street and Higbee Avenue, with Bishop David Gemar officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
