Obituary: R.B. Bigler Passed Away Tuesday

"Robert Burton Bigler, 71, years old, of Afton passed peacefully away at his daughters home in Afton Tuesday moring at 9:30. Cancer being the cause of his death. He has been ill since last October. Bert, as he was known by his numerous friends was born at Farmington, David county, Utah on Christmas Day 1866. He was the son of Adam C. Bigler and Sarah Ann Compton. In September 1900 he was married to Fannie Reed. They spent their first year of married life in Afton, Mrs. Bigler run the hotel and Bert tended bar at the saloon. They moved to Auburn the following year and went in partners with Mark Bigler. They afterward purchased the ranch they lived on for so many years, raising cattle and horses. He has lived for the past 13 years in Afton with two years at Kemmerer. Funeral services were held at Auburn Thursday at 2:00 p.m. The choir sang the opening song "The Deepening Trials" and the closing song "Shall We Meet Beyond the river". Solo "Calvary" was sung by Ivan Gardner and Arch Gardner sang "Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" accompanied on the piano by Elona Hillyard. The first speaker was Frank Cranny. He spoke of the charitable life he had lived, of the many acts of kindness he had preformed. Spoke of the love he had for animals and the fine horses he had and how he loved to ride. Said he was always truthful to his family. Bp. Ezra George spoke of his early life, said his mother had died when he was two weeks old. Spoke of the prominent part his father had played in the early settlement of Utah. He was one of the foremost pioneers of 1857 and brought a stock of horses with him coming over the plains with the pioneers. Bp. Edwin Allred of Afton spoke words of praise for Mrs. Bigler, told of the trials she had gone through the past year in caring for her brother during his long illness and of her devotion to her husband. The opening prayer was offered by Carl Walton and the closing prayer by Leslie Hillyard. The grave at the cemetery was dedicated by Bp. D.T. Wood. Beautiful flowers banked the casket. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and four children, two children having preceded him in death Merlin Bigler, who is in the hospital at Cokeville with tick fever, Arnold Bigler, Arthell Nelson and Allen, Bigler, also one granddaughter whom they raised and one brother, John Bigler of Ogden."
