About Robert Bowman, II
Robert Jr and Sr were both probably born in Scotland and migrated from England in 1666 and/or 1670. There are passenger lists for both years, which might indicate that father and son came within four years of each other. Anecdotal evidence states that they arrived in Jamestown before settling 950 acres along the James River in Virginia. Their plantation was known as Roxdale Plantation, which was later passed to the Hudson family through marriage.
"It is a family tradition that the earliest ancestor was a ship carpenter who came with the first colonists to Jamestown from London," according to Charles W. Bowman on p. 3 of his 1912 publication, BOWMAN GENEALOGY: Fragmentary Annals of a Branch of the Bowman Family, Law Reporter Printing Company, Washington, D.C.
