This is a partial transcript of the uploaded document page 477- 478

Robert Bryan was born about 1535, and probably in the vicinity of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. No record of baptism is found.

He was a resident of Aylesbury, Bucks., as early as 1565 and lived there the rest of his life. He died there and was buried 26 December 1604. No will has been discovered.

He married 1, Joane, whose maiden name is not found, and who was buried at Aylesbury, 21 March 1581; married 2 on 3 October 1585 to Agnes carpenter, who was buried also at Aylesbury, 3 March 1624.

  • Quoting again from Dr. Banker’s article: The writer (Dr. Banker) in 1910, had an opportunity of a brief visit to the old parish church in Aylesbury and obtained, as he believes, all the references to the Bryan name that are contained in these registers. The records date back to 1654 and are (unreadable) well-bound parchment books which are in an excellent state of preservation. The name Bryan appears almost at the beginning, the firs record of that name being that of the baptism of “Christopher Bryan the son of Robert Bryan XXII July, 1565.”

That relatively ittle more may be discovered of the Bryan family in Aylesbury will be deduced from the comment made in A History of Aylesbury, in the County of Buckingham, by Robert Gibbs.

Although the town at one time enjoyed the privileges of a Corporation, could (unreadable) of its Chief local Magistrate, its Alderman, capital Burgesses, its Mansion House, Officers, and other paraphernalia, all have disappeared. Everything but a copy of the Act of Incorporation and the name of its first “wise men” had passed into oblivion and it is to be lamented that not a single scrap has survived to tell us of the former sayings and doing relative to Aylesbury. Its archives, with its documents, are all lost to us for ever. There never was a more perfect annihilation…

In a return of the gentry of Buck., made 12 Henry VI (1433), listed on page 337 of the forgoing work, no Bryans are given. Further:

From the commencement to the end of the 16th century the entries (in the parish registers) are exceedingly regular and of great neatness, so much so as to lead to the supposition, indeed the certainty, that these pages are a transcript, and not the true and original register…

In 1565, amongst the births registered were those of Bowling…(and other)…

In the years 1566 to 1570 the names most prominent as inhabitants were (includes with name of Bryan among others)…

Charles C. Baldwin in Alexander Bryan of Milford, Connecticut, states at pate 10: The name was an old on in the vicinity. In Hertfordshire, at the 23rd and 25th Parliament (Edward1st) Roger Bryan was a knight of the shire, and in 1277 lands were held in the perish of Bukhamungh (sic) by William Brian and Robert Brain.

In our own investigation we found that a Robert Bryan married a Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks., 11 October 1551 to Margareta Grove of that place. The name is frequent one in this shire.

Robert Bryan & Joanna

'"S.R. Durand:

"Robert Bryan was the father of Thomas Bryan. He was a resident of Aylesbury in 1565, and was buried there on December 26, 1604. His wife's first name was Joanna, and Thomas was the first of their six children. Joanna was buried at Aylesbury March 21, 1581, and Robert Bryan was married for the second time on October 3, 1585, to Agnes Carpenter. The Bryan name was an old one in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, and records of the name exist as far back as the 1200's."
