About Robert Chalmers

Born at North Urquhart Farm, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Emigrated to New Zealand with parents, brothers and sisters on the 'Robert Henderson', leaving Clyde, Scotland on 12 Nov 1857, she arrived, after a record voyage, in Port Chalmers, Otago, New Zealand, on 9 Feb 1858. Robert first settled in the Milton area, then moved to the Catlins. He was a farmer. Retired to Dunedin. He married Janet Fyfe, who had also emigrated from Fife, on 27 Oct 1860 at Milton, Otago. There was a large family which are now spread over New Zealand. The couple retired to Dunedin and both died there, and are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Inscription: In Loving Memory of Robert CHALMERS beloved husband of Janet Fyfe died 17 Nov 1913 aged 78 years also Janet beloved wife of above died 7 Jan 1917 aged 79 years. Peace Perfect Peace.
