About Robert Colville of Nether Kinneddar, Min. of Culross
Biographical Summary
Robert Colville of Nether Kinneddar, born about 1560, son of Alexander C., commendator of Culross, and brother of James C. of Balbedie; min. in 1593 but had been apparently ord. to a parish (unidentified) within the Presb. of Linlithgow; he was one of those who met with the brethren at Linlithgow before their trial in 1606, for holding an Assembly at Aberdeen against the King's orders ; signed, with forty-one others, a Protestation to Parliament, 1st July that year, against the introduction of Episcopacy, and was one of fifty-five who signed a Protestation to Parliament in behalf of the Liberties of the Kirk, 27th June 1617. He was still min. 13th July 1629, though obliged to have the services of an assistant [Robert Melville], when he probably retired to Kinghorn. He died 25th Feb. 1631. He marr. Catherine Melville, and had issue —
- Robert of Kinneddar, served heir 5th Dec. 1640 and 8th May 1649;
- Jean (marr. his successor at Culross) ;
- Katherine (marr. cont. 30th Oct. 1637, James, son of James Aiken of Middle Grange).
