Some on-line excerpts from an article by William B. Saxby Jr. in the American Genealogist report that in October of 1666 Thomas Walling was found guilty of assault on Robert Colwell and paid a bond of 20 pounds, but he failed to appear in court and forfeited his bond. It turned out that he had run away with Colwell's wife Margaret White, whom Colwell subsequently divorced.
Colwell secured his divorce July 2, 1667; Margaret had returned to Boston and was ordered to be publicly whipped 15 stripes and was fined. In October 1666. Colwell went to Long Island, Walling also obtained a divorce and he married Margaret in 1669.
In 1671, Robert Colwell bought the house and lot of John Fenner lying between Edward Inman and John Smith. "Robert 1660 had a house and lot laid out 19 February 1665 had lot 67 assigned to him in a division of lands 2nd July 1667 his petition his petition of May last for freedom of his wife Margaret was renewed and the court now granted him a divorce from late Margaret White with liberty to contract another marriage. Lived later on Long Island.
