About Robert Creswell
Robert Creswell (* around 1772 in South Carolina ; † 11 September 1850 in Eutaw, Alabama ) was an American politician. Between 1814 and 1816 he was Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina.
Career
Robert Creswell spent most of his life in the Laurens District in South Carolina. There he practiced law. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party. Later, he joined the Democratic-Republican Party.
In 1798 he was elected to the House of Representatives of South Carolina. In 1802, his candidacy failed as a federalist for the House of Representatives of the United States. In 1814, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of his state by the South Carolina General Assembly. He held this office between December 10, 1814, and December 5, 1816.
He then served as the Comptroller General of South Carolina, where he was elected in 1816. He later became a candidate for the appointment of an appellate judge and as president of the Bank of South Carolina . Creswell rejected both functions and retired as a lawyer. He died on September 11, 1850, in Eutaw.
