An indenture bearing dates 16th February AD 1711 between Christopher Dodgson of Ellinthrop within th township of Paythorne in the parish of Gisburn in the county of York yeoman on the one part and Robert Dodgson of Ellinthrop aforesaid son and heir apparent of the said Christopher Dodgson on the other part of and concerning all that messuage or dwelling house and barn and garden and stable and all those closes,closures or parcels of land called and known by the several name or names of the Croft, the Gatelands, the Nar Kill Flats, the Far Kill Flats, the Widow Ings, the Mossfields, the Kirlinows, the Castill Banks, the Great Mill Butts and the Little Mill Butts containing by rough estimation 30 acres of land be the same more or less and are situate, lying and being at Ellingthorpe within Paythorne aforesaid and are now in the tenure and occupation of the said Christopher Dodgson his assignes or assigns which said indenture is witnessed by Robert Dodgson of Pay, William Lancaster of Windy Pike and Mary Dodgson of Ellingthorpe all the three living within the township of Paythorne in the parish of Gisburn in the county of York and Robert Dodgson and William Lancasters additions are yeomen and Mary Dodgsons spinster.

One indenture of demise or grant bearing the date the 27th June in the 9th year of the reign of our most Sovereign Lord George and Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of Our Lord 1735 and made or mentioned to be made between Robert Dodgson of Ellingthorpe within the township of Paythorne and county of York Yeoman on the one part and Thomas Dawson of Kallfoot within Worston in the county of Lancaster Yeoman of the other part of or concerning all that messuages and dwelling house with a barn stables garden and all those several closes enclosures or parcels of land thereto belonging commonly called and known by the several name or names of the Croft the Gate Lands the Narr Kill Flatts and Starr Kill Flatts the Widdow Inge the Mossfield the Kirlingmows the Castill Banks the Great Mill Butts and the Little Mill Butts containing the whole by common estimation thirty acres of land or thereabouts be the same more or less and are situate lying and being at Ellingthorpe within Paythorne aforesaid and now in the tenure holding or occupation of the said Robert Dodgson his assigns or assigns farmers or tenants in which the said indenture of demise or grant there is a proviso or condition to make the same void and defeazable on payment of the sum of £100 and interest at the days and times and in the manner and form as in the said indenture is mentioned and set forth. Which said indenture is witnessed by John Taylor of Chatburn in the county of Lancaster Gentleman John Parkinson of Clitheroe in the said county of Lancaster Gentleman and JohnTaylor of Clitheroe aforesaid Gentleman. Will of Robert Dodgson of Ellingthorp Grange

In the name of God Amen I Robert Dodgson of Ellingthorp Grange in the parish of Gisburn in the county of York Yeoman do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I give devise and bequeath all that my messuage wherein I now dwell situate at Ellingthorp Grange within the parish of Gisburn aforesaid together with all barns buildings lands tenements and hereditaments to the same adjoining and belonging or elsewhere unto Robert Dodgson my eldest son and heir apparent, whole? to him the said Robert Dodgson his heirs executors administrators and assigns, attending to the estate any interest I have therein. He or they raising and paying outthereof unto my younger children their several portions Legacies annuity or yearly sum and sums of money as by me herein hereafter ................ given and bequeathed mentioned and expressed. And at such days and times herein and hereafter ............ and appointed. That is to say my will and mind is and I do hereby give and bequeath unto William Dodgson my second son the legacy or sum of £30 to be paid him by my executor 12 months after my decease In case he be then discharged and wherever he is discharged from his service in the Kings Majesties Army and not otherwise; Also my will and mind is and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth now the wife of Henry Gregson of Newholme the annual or yearly sum of 20 shillings to be paid her by my executor yearly and every year during her natural life only whose ......... shall be a sufficient discharge for the same. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Isabel the sum of £30 to be paid her by my executor 12 months after my decease. Also my will and mind is and I do likewise give and bequeath unto my four youngest daughters as followeth. That is to say unto Ellen, Ann, Jane and Mary each the sum of £50 to be paid to each of them by my executor when they and each of them severally attain and ........ their several age of 21 years. Also my will and mind is and I do hereby likewise give and order that my executor hereinafter named his heirs executors and administrators he they or some of them shall also pay or cause to be paid unto my said four daughters ............. ................. each the sum of forty shillings yearly for and towards their maintenance till they and each of them severally ............ and attains the age of 21 years as aforesaid and if default shall happen to be made of or in payment of my said younger children's several portions legacies annuity or yearly sum and sums of money or any part thereof at the days and times of payment herein above ............ and appointed Then it is my will and mind that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said younger children and each of them and their assigns as also the supervisors of this my will to enter into and upon all and every the said messuages lands and tenements or into any part thereof in the name of the whole and to hold and enjoy the same ........... they and each of them to be fully satisfied and paid and pay all arrears together with .......... of rent and all damages they and each of them have sustained by non payment thereof. And all the residue of my estate whatsoever real and personal after payment of my debts funeral expenses legacies and charges of probate of this my last will I give and bequeath to my said son Robert Dodgson his heirs executors and administrators. And lastly revoking all former wills I do nominate and appoint my said son Robert Dodgson sole executor of this my last will and testament and I do hereby make my loving brother William Dodgson and friend Christopher Lancaster of Paythorn supervisors or overseers of this my last will to take care and see the same performed according to my ............. and meaning. And for their pains I give each of them 10 shillings. In witness whereof I the said Robert Dodgson have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal this 30th day of September in the year of Our Lord 1739.
