Robert was baptized 26 July 1581 in St Andrew, Halstead, Essex, England, the son of William Drake and his wife Joane Webb Merrills/Merrylis of Halstead, Colchester, and Elmstead, Essex, England.Robert emigrated from the parish of St Giles, Colchester, Essex, England to America ca 1641. He was definitely in Hampton by 1645 when he had pasture there. His sons Abraham and Nathaniel were in New Hampshire ahead of him and signed early documents of the area.Robert was a serge maker/weaver. He first settled in Exeter, but removed to Hampton about 1650 or 1651. He took the Oath of Allegiance 4 Oct 1653. He was a selectman of Hampton in 1653 and 1664; juror 1653; and grand juror 1662. He was admitted freeman April 1663.
