Robert Gould was born Abt. 1645 in ,, England, and died 1718 in Hull, Mass. He married Judith Pool on Abt. 1690.

Came from England about 1665, ahving been sent for by his cousin Joan - Widow of John Stone, who had died in 1664, childless, leaving her his estate. She died in 1674 leaving Robert the homestead. According to Benj. Apthorp Gould, he came in 1665. According to Dr. Elmer Gould of Missouri, he came previous to 1660 from Somersetshire, England to Nantasket. Robert Goold and the Tribe of Joseph (xerox from a ?book, date unknown)

Robert Goold, about 1660, emigrated from Somersetshire, England, to Hull, Mass., of which place he was the chief citizen until he died.

He married Elizabeth Bosworth and by her had four sons.

Elizabeth having died, he married Mrs. Judith Pool, of Reading, and had by her two sons, James, and Joseph born 1690, married Mary Prince October 18, 1713.

Their first child, Joseph II, was born January 27, 1715, married Hannah Binney, June 7, 1739. Their third child, Joseph, died and infant and then the next child was given the same name and was Joseph III. He was born in 1746 and served with his father as mess boy in the French and Indian War. Both were with the Hull Boot Company at the siege of Quebec and the battle on the Plains of Abraham, Joseph III being then only thirteen years old. Shortly after the close of the French and Indian WAr, probably in 1760, Joseph II moved with his family to Georgetown, Maine. March 6, 1766, he was "very sick and weak in body" and willed his property to his wife, Hannah. He died within a onth, for his will was probated May 14, 1766. Joseph II was a "housewright" by trade and Joseph III was given most of his tools, the same being singly and carefully enumerated. The children of Joseph III and Mary his wife, were Mary, Sarah, Nancy, John, Jacob born 1768, and Joseph IV born 1770, in that part of old Georgetown known as West Bath, Maine.

Mary Goold, first born of Joseph III and Mary his wife, married Samuel Berry. Their first son, named Joseph for his grandfather, became prominent and influential, General of Militia, Custom House Officer and the first man to clear a ship from the port of Bath in his own name. His brother John was a ship captain in the China trade, and his son, John L. Berry, lives at Georgetown, Maine.

Jacob Goold son of Joseph III married Mary Day in 1791, and to them were born six children. Wife having died, Jacob married (1836) Rebecca Hinkley, and to them were born, Thomas J., April 10, 1841, Levi C., March 11, 1847, two generations covering a period of 134 years. Thomas J. Goold lives at Lisbon, ME., where he was born.
